I prepare  to write

 down reactions to

every one in the book 

until there's two 

full pages of notes

  to condense  into 

a concise phrase

to  serve as a  bumper 

sticker for this work

 it falls short of what 

I think it deserves  

 for the reader to want it

 never mind  everyone 

may qualify to judge

   my friend's poems

 who secretly need

 to be delivered

 as an art form 

  expressed anew

     a mewling neonate 

of poetry, an ode 

pushed through another 

window into a clean  

  gallery of topical 

cameras,  perfecting

 a ring to capture 

the dynamics of the beast

 The story must be about text—it can only be about text—because 

that is the nature of the very story itself 

and since it leads to plausible conclusions 

that only a select few could readily accept. 

Among these, in fact, are the very words of living history

 written in blood on skin, transcending the emotions that flow 

toward the end of time, traced across generations 

on the parchments of flesh we all carry with us.
